I Am. My Islam. My France.
Movie synopsis
Intimate portraits, of five young Muslim women, living in different projects around Paris, known as 'cités'.
The documentary is an observation of Khadija, Anissa, Henriette, Nana and Tiguidanké.
Their shared identity doesn’t make them the same. Each one is unique, yet simply herself.
They are French, but they are more: Their reality is a world of two cultures.
The camera is either used to document daily life, either it is there to enhance a dialogue, like a mirror dialogue. It is this continuous shifting in between these two approaches watching the trivialities of daily rituals, that results into a mosaic of a few days with a slight touch of self-irony, – no political spin or judgements - in the lives of Khadija, Anissa, Henriette, Nana and Tiguidanké.
The mixed-media project I Am - Paradox Identity consists of photography, collected portable phone photo-albums, sound recordings and film recordings. Produced with the financial support of the Fonds BKVB (the Netherlands).
